JUNIOR SUB-SCHOOL

Foundation, Grade 1 & Grade 2 - Koroit Campus

At Hume Valley School, our early years curriculum (Prep to Year 2) is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), with a strong emphasis on individualised, play-based learning tailored to each student’s unique strengths, needs, and developmental goals.

Our approach supports students with mild intellectual disabilities by embedding the VEYLDF’s five key outcomes—identity, connection, wellbeing, confidence, and communication—into highly personalised programs. We use evidence-based teaching strategies, additional support from therapists and wellbeing staff, and specialised resources to create nurturing environments that promote engagement, inclusion and a love of learning.

While we embrace the holistic, developmental focus of the VEYLDF, we also report on student progress using the Victorian Curriculum F–10 achievement standards, ensuring every child has a clear pathway for growth.

Our Grade 2 students are gently supported through a carefully planned transition to the Narrun Campus for Grade 3. This process includes classroom visits, fun orientation activities, and time to connect with future teachers and peers. We work closely with families and support teams to ensure each child feels safe, confident, and ready for the next stage of their learning in a familiar and supportive environment.
